The Chan Desaigoudar Foundation, USA, founded by Mr. Chandrashekar Desaigoudar, has generously established a corpus fund in partnership with Deenabandhu Trust, Chamarajanagara.
The funds received from the foundation supports the Chan Desaigoudar Scholarship Program and the Science Talent Award Program.
Since its inception in 1998, the scholarship program has been dedicated to empowering meritorious students from disadvantaged backgrounds who have studied in select rural government high schools across Karnataka. These scholarships are provided in three to four installments, enabling deserving students to pursue their college education.
Over the years, many scholarship recipients have gone on to achieve success as Engineers, Doctors, Teachers, Medical Technicians, and College Lecturers.
While studying at Stanford University in the United States, Mr. Chandrashekar Desaigoudar encountered a dire financial difficulty. During this challenging time, an anonymous donor provided him with substantial financial support, along with a message: “you need not repay the money, but be helpful to others in need when you are able to do so”. This act of kindness inspired Mr. Chandrashekar to establish this foundation, dedicated to helping students in need.
Mr. Chandrashekar Desaigoudar: Born in Shiggaon, Haveri district, Karnataka, Mr. Chandrashekar Desaigoudar went to the USA to pursue his Engineering studies at Stanford University. After completing his education, he went on to build a successful business, becoming a prominent entrepreneur.
Mrs. Arathi Desaigoudar: Renowned film artist who had a successful career in the Kannada film industry. She has settled in the USA with her husband, Mr. Chandrashekar Desaigoudar.
The program offers scholarships to academically talented students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds who attend rural government high schools in Karnataka. This scholarship help themto pursue higher education. As of 2024, more than 1,200 students have benefited from the program, with 67 new students being awarded scholarships each year.
